Sooooooo… We are living in the glorious, technologically overachieving 21st century. I could list dozens of mind-blowing things we’ve invented or perfected in just the last 20 years alone. So with all of that in mind… tell me this:
|
WHY? WHY? WHYYYYYYYYY 😤…do our computers have an alarm feature that will only shut off if you manually dismiss it?!?! I love the alarm function—don’t get me wrong. Truly. Both at home and at work, it’s incredibly useful. We all do it: you sit down at your computer, get locked into whatever you’re working on, and suddenly three hours have vanished into the void. At work, I’m required (for safety reasons) to stop what I’m doing every hour and check on my colleagues. So naturally, I set alarms to remind me while I’m busy multitasking. At home, my precious Bella was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 💔, and she needs medication twice a day. So again—computer alarms to the rescue! Especially when I’m deep in SL or hyper-focused on something else. Sounds great, right? |
EXCEPT... These alarms…
NEVER. TURN. OFF.
like ever.
Not after five minutes.
Not after ten.
Never.
They ring.
They buzz.
They ding.
On. And on. And on. And on.... Forever!
Until you physically march over and click that tiny little “Dismiss” button.
I mean… even kitchen timers eventually give up. Regular alarm clocks surrender to the void after a while. But computer alarms? Oh no. They are fueled by spite and eternal rage.
Naturally, I thought, This can’t be right. Surely—with ALLLLLL the technology in this world—there must be a setting to stop the alarm after a certain amount of time.
So I Googled.
Nothing. Nope.
Nada.
Zip. Zilch.
Apparently, in Windows 10, there was a workaround. And I use the term “workaround” very generously here.
The solution?
👉 Set a second alarm five minutes later.
👉 Then set the ringtone for that alarm to “None.”
Let’s pause.
…….
………..
………....
Okaaay....Let’s all collectively reflect on how absolutely stupid that is.
And yes—this was literally the only solution offered.
BUT WAIT.
Did you catch the part where that workaround was for Windows 10?
Because in Windows 11, the “None” ringtone option no longer exists.
So even if you want to use this wildly ridiculous solution———You can’t.
This feature somehow got updated… backwards.
falls over dramatically with a loud thud
Now I’m sure many of you—(assuming you made it this far)—are thinking:
“Wow. What a waste of blog space.”
BUT LISTEN.
That stupid alarm woke me up this morning!
Yes. It goes off even if your laptop is closed. 😡
And heaven forbid I step away at work, go to the bathroom, grab lunch, blink too long—my coworkers end up hovering over my desk trying to silence the digital banshee screaming from my computer.
C’mon, Windows...Microsoft...Whoever approved this.
Seriously?
But I digress…
If I am just a dumbass who hasn’t figured out how to make these alarms shut themselves off, PLEASE—by all means—tell me. I will gladly rescind this rant, publicly call myself an idiot, and laugh at my own stupidity.
Until then…
GRR. GRR. GRR.
Stupid freaking computer alarms!
(That I somehow both love and hate at the same time.) 😆😆
